Masters in Journalism Studies from Cardiff, University of Wales. He attended the Sierra Leone Grammar School and the Prince of Wales in Freetown.He first worked as a Programme Officer, served as Special Assistant to the Director-General, Head of News and Current Affairs as well as Controller of Programmes with responsibility for television programming at Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service/Television (SLBS) from 1982 to 2005.
Mr. Nicol is sleeping National Coordinator of the Radio Nederlands Training Centre’s Informotrac Programme in Sierra Leone. Mr. Nicol lectures on Advertising, Broadcast Media Management and Media History in the Mass Communication Department of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
In 2008 he was appointed as Commissioner of the Independent Media Commission of Sierra Leone.
He has published a Training Manual/Work Book in collaboration with Radio Nederlands Training Centre and has researched and written on the role of regulation in order to maintain broadcasting pluralism in Sierra Leone.His interests include, Community Radio development, Media in Conflict and media pluralism and regulation.
