I was born in the Sierra Rutile mines in the South of Sierra Leone. I went to school there briefly until when the rebels struck the mines in 1995. We moved over to Freetown to start a new life with a devastated family. It was not unique to us anyway.

When I was a boy (about five years old) I wanted to become a ‘gallant soldier.’ Why? My father retired from the army and later on joined Sierra Rutile Limited. He had friends in the army who visited him regularly. I admired them so much in their military outfit. That dream died down as I grew older. The army was not an enviable place to be during the war. Not because they were killed but because they were accused of collaborating with the rebels. I once had interest in becoming a lawyer but I thought they were rogues. I was afraid of dying and go to hell. Childish thoughts!

During my early secondary school days, I developed interest in writing and journalism. I wrote poems and short stories while doing a daily news update at school and joined the Sierra Leonean PEN (A chapter of the International PEN) in 2004. I was so excited about it and I was the School Clubs Coordinator. Because of my commitment, I was involved in all of the organisation’s activities. I enjoyed talking to and meeting with elderly people and writers like Aminata Fornah, Gbanabom Hallowey, Syl Cheney-Coker and others. I was very proud, as young as I was. Because I wanted to write, I started ‘reading.’ Meanwhile I was a faithful listener to the BBC and admired many of their journalists. Up till now though.

At the PEN Centre, I contributed to the Pen Point Magazine published by the PEN Centre. When I completed Senior Secondary School, I joined a small newspaper, published by the Catholic Mission- Christian Monitor. I worked there as a reporter and I served as the manager of the paper’s website. It was tough combining work with college. I left the Christian Monitor in mid 2007. Soon afterwards, I joined CTN as a volunteer. I wanted to see what broadcasting could offer to my journalism career. After a few months of volunteerism, I was given a contract.

I am currently the producer and presenter of CTN at One (magazine program) and CTN Youth Club. It is really challenging. Working and going to school at the same time is difficult. But thank God, CTN understands that. Most importantly, I enjoy the job so much- I enjoy the madness at deadlines, I always feel good interviewing people, especially the youth, I like controversial issues.

My profile is never complete without mentioning my passion for Italian football club, AC Milan.
