Abubakarr Turay is popularly known by the initials, ABT. He started his journalism career with an independent newspaper in the capital Freetown in 2004; two years after completing his Diploma in Library, Archive and Information Studies at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. A year later, he became a presenter, news reader and producer at Radio Mount Aureol, the university’s radio. He joined the Cotton Tree News as a volunteer in February, 2007 and a month later, was made a stringer for the northern city of Makeni. Two months later, he was assigned to cast news for the morning programme, CTN at Six. In December, 2007, ABT graduated with a Bachelor in Mass Communication with Honours from the University of Sierra Leone. In the same month, he was assigned to produce the programme CTN AT SIX which runs from 06-08 GMT. In June of 2009, ABT was promoted to the post of Deputy News Editor. He sees this appointment as a new challenge, because as he put it, he has "always kept himself from news editing and more accustomed to producing programmes. But he believes the challenge is not insurmountable.
