Francis’ father’s long standing experience as a broadcaster is part of his inspiration to become a broadcast journalist. In November 2001, Francis was employed at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service as a reporter for radio and television.

His focus by then was to learn the basics of broadcast journalism as he had just completed his senior secondary education. His ultimate desire was and still is to become a renowned broadcast journalist that would help to unravel the needs and aspirations of people.

After three years of work and trainings at the SLBS/TV, Francis became a presenter, producer and in 2005 editor (Radio and Television News), a position he held until he left the SLBS in 2007. His professional achievements then included serving as an editor, reporter, presenter and producer of programmes like ‘People and Events’ (breakfast programme) and ‘News File’ (lunch time news and current affairs programme) at the SLBS/TV.

In 2006, he was also appointed Production Manager of Radio Education (a radio station operated by the then Ministry of Education, Science and Technology).

In may 2007, Francis Sowa joined Cotton Tree News as a volunteer, became a stringer in June and in October 2007, Deputy News Editors. He produces Government and the People, does general reporting,News reading and mentoring. His major achievement will be to continue acquiring the needed skills to become a better journalist, a status his current employment (CTN) and education at the Mass Communication Department, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone continue to offer.

Francis was born in the North of Sierra Leone in the 80s. He is a devout Christian hoping to have a lovely and God fearing family and an ardent supporter of Arsenal.
