Students in Sierra Leone commemorated Monday August 18th, a day that several students were killed by the then AFRC military junta in 1997.

It could be recalled, that the National Union of Sierra Leone (NUSS) organized a pro-democracy demonstration in Freetown and other parts of the country against the military junta. NUSS commemorated the eleventh anniversary, with a symposium at the British Council Hall in Freetown. The theme was ‘The Role of Students in Nation Building’. Dauda Laingay Bangura, Public Relations Officer, NUSS, said the students’ sacrificed their lives for the democracy the country was now enjoying. The symposium discussed the role of students in nation building, the issue of students’ solidarity and their role in the attitudinal change campaign.
