Ten suspects are currently helping the police in their investigations for arson, after allegedly burning down fourteen houses on Balensera Island, Samu Chiefdom, in the Kambia District.
The Crime Officer in Kambia, Detective Inspector Abdul Salaam told CTN that the police were still searching for more suspects who are on the run.The houses were allegedly burnt down by rival supporters of the All People’s Congress Party and an independent local government councilor, on Friday following a clash between the two groups. The Head of Police Media and Public Relations, Inspector Ibrahim Samura, said the incident occurred as a result of a meeting organised by Fallah Suma, who is claimed to be the APC Coordinator for the Island. He said the meeting was disrupted by supporters of the Independent councilor. He said police had not received any report of injury as a result of the incident. But independent reports say two people were injured during the clash. One allegedly stabbed on the head and shoulder. They were reportedly taken to the Kambia government hospital.
