Parliament makes National Drug Control Act retro-active |

Parliament amended the National Drug Control Act 2008 making it retroactive.
The amendment was made under a Certificate of urgency. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development, Dauda Kamara laid the motion before parliament. Dauda Kamara said the amendment of the National Drug Control Act 2008 now creates a provision to appropriately deal with the prevailing drug saga in the country. Honorable Bernadette Lahai of the Opposition SLPP said the amendment came at the right time because people were still engage in drug trafficking in the country. Honorable Mathew Timbo of the Ruling APC said if the drug menace was not drastically addressed, it could undermine the peace and stability of the country. Meanwhile Paramount Chief Kanagbaro Sanka the third said it would be prudent for the government to hand over the foreign suspects in the cocaine saga at the Pademba Road prison to the UN Special Court for security reasons.
