ImageMinister of Education says he has discovered dozens of non-existent ghost teachers created by his officials to embezzle money. Dr. Minkailu Bah said many of the thirty-three thousand teachers receiving salaries existed only on paper, adding that the embezzlement amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dr. Bah said since he came to office, his investigations had uncovered a very different picture from the one painted by officials of his ministry. He said that many schools which receive subsidies that were on the ministry's books were also "ghost schools" with “ghost pupils” as well. He pointed out that there was connivance between officials of his ministry and the Accountant General's Department. He promised that they were going to unearth those malpractices and take serious action against those found wanting.
