The Secretary to the President and Principal Adviser, James Sanpha Koroma has resigned his position.
This follows controversy surrounding a proposed increment of salaries for the President and Vice President. In a letter dated 25th August, Mr. Koroma said he was taking full responsibility for what he called a ‘confluence of events’ that took place in his office that embarrassed the President. In his letter of resignation, the former Secretary to the President said people within his office have been communicating with parliament on a statutory document without his consent. Mr. Koroma has also apologised to President Ernest Koroma for the embarrassment. Meanwhile, a Government of Sierra Leone press statement says that the President has ‘regrettably’ accepted James Sanpha Koroma’s resignation. In the statement, President Koroma says it is not ripe to consider salary increment when the economy is sixty percent donor funded. Minister of Presidential Affairs, Alpha Kanu said further investigations would look into how correspondences were exchanged between the Presidential Secretary’s Office and Parliament.
