The Resident Minister East, William Smith launched the Human Rights Commission’s inaugural Report in Kailahun.
The report is called “The State of Human Rights in Sierra Leone”.Bockarie Buannie, Chief Administrator of the Kailahun District Council said the report was expected to improve the lives of people in the district who suffered a lot during the eleven year war. Mr Buannie told the commission that the human rights situation in Kailahun district was a concern to them. He cited the Guinean troops’ occupation of Yenga in the Kissi Teng Chiefdom, noting that ‘their brothers are in bondage under the Guinean troops’. Tom Nyuma, Chairman of the Kailahun District Council said although human rights issues have slightly improved in the district, more attention should be given to the Guinean troops’ occupation of Yenga. The Vice Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Edward Sam, advised the people to carefully read the report and submit their observations to the commission.
