ImageThe Chairman of the Monument and Relics Commission says one of the Cannons on Bunce Island has been stolen. Charlie James Hughes spoke at a news conference at the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) in Freetown. Mr. Hughes said the commission had made several strives to search for the item on the Island and its environs, but could not find it. He said the cannon would only leave the country as a scrap-metal or stolen historical item through the country’s seaports. Adonis Aboud, member of the commission said historical relics were a treasure and relevant materials for tourist attraction. The cannons are among the historical assets left by the Colonial regime.
