The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted newspaper publications that the British High Commission in Sierra Leone intends to stop the issuance of British visas to Sierra Leoneans.
Sullay Daramy spoke on Thursday at the Information ministry’s weekly press briefing. He said the High Commission had no intention to suspend or stop the process. Mr. Daramy said the British High Commission is changing the process of issuing visas, but noted that Sierra Leone was not the only country affected.
He said the change brought about what he referred to as the “worldwide regionalization of the British visa process.” He said among the reasons given by the British for the change was to reduce the cost on the visa authorities and their customers. Mr. Daramy noted that there was no restriction for Sierra Leoneans in the new process and encouraged everybody to be honest in the presentation of documents when applying for a visa.
