‘The United Nations Security Council Resolution thirteen-twenty-five is an excellent mechanism to enable Sierra Leone address issues affecting women’. Yasmin Jusu Sheriff, President of the Mano River Women’s Peace Network was speaking on Wednesday at a one-day information sharing and advocacy session on the implementation on Resolution thirteen-twenty-five.

Resolution thirteen-twenty-five is the first resolution ever passed by the UN Security Council to specifically address the impact of war on women, and women's contribution to conflict resolution and peace.  Ms Jusu-Sheriff said many women had been victims of discrimination and maternal deaths. She said if the country was to improve on the lives of women and children, government should prioritize and allocate adequate resources towards the implementation of the resolution. Eunice Njovana of the UNIFEM said sexual and gender based violence and impunity against women were major concerns to the UN. She described the female parliamentary caucus in Sierra Leone as a strategic organ in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution thirteen-twenty-five.
