The Minister of Lands and Country Planning, Dr. Dennis Sandy has said his ministry would begin to name and shame individuals and institutions that owe the ministry exorbitant amount of money as land lease rents. He spoke on Thursday at the Ministry of Information and Communications weekly press briefing in Freetown. He said government needed money to repay affected persons as a result of actions to retrieve state lands. Dr. Sandy noted that the action was centered on his terms of reference which was to identify state lands that would, as he put it, be banked for future development. He said although certain areas were designated by legal documents as state lands, people were still occupying them. He pointed out that counselors and headmen among others were causing problems for the ministry, as they have ‘no business in land matters.
