The European Commission has banned a total of seven airlines registered in Sierra Leone from flying in European airspace. According to Travel bite of the United Kingdom, the seven Sierra Leonean airlines were among dozens of other African and Asian Airlines, facing a similar fate. Crashes over the Atlantic and New York have focused public attention on safety in the skies; prompting authorities to tackle the problem of safety standards.Commenting on the European ban of airlines not meeting the required standards, the European Union Commission’s Vice-President Antonio Tajani, said ‘We cannot afford any compromises in air safety; we have to remain vigilant. He said citizens have the right to fly safely every where in the world. The affected Sierra Leonean airlines are Air Rum Limited, Destiny Air Services, Heavy lift Cargo, Orange Air Sierra Leone, Paramount Air Services, Seven-Four-Eight Air Services and Teebah Airways.
