The defense team representing Special Court indictee, Issa Sesay, says allegations against his client are false.

In his opening statement in court on Thursday in Freetown, Mr. Jordash said his client had no command over

the rebels of the RUF as alleged by the prosecution.

He said Mr. Sesay was just an ordinary member who eventually became an interim leader of the RUF.

Lawyer Jordash said defense witnesses would come from various walks of life to show that his client was not

involved in crime he is alleged to have committed.

In his testimony, Issa Sesay said he was recruited by Foday Sankoh in Ivory Coast in the eighties. He said he

was recruited by Foday Sankoh. He added that he was among the first group of fighters that attacked Sierra

Leone in nineteen ninety – one.
