The National Revenue Authority (NRA) says it collected over six hundred and ninety eight billion million leones from January to December last year. NRA says that amount of total revenue collected and banked exceeded its last year’s target by over twenty seven billion leones. Haja Isata Kallah-Kamara is the Acting Commissioner-General of the NRA. She said on Tuesday at the International Customs Day celebration that the NRA’s performance was very encouraging, taking into account the fact that the country witnessed a very difficult moment in its history as a result of the global economic crisis. She said the NRA’s success for last year could be attributed to the commitment of its staff in performing their functions, and also to the collaboration it has been getting from taxpayers. But Sierra Leoneans have expressed concern over the taxes levied on them, citing the newly introduced Goods and Services Tax (GST).
