The Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Amadu Koroma has revealed that the first phase of the Hill Side Road construction is expected to begin at the end of this month. The first phase of the road project will begin at Jomo Kenyatta Road and terminate at Savage Square in the East end of Freetown. It is expected to last for eighteen months. Mr. Koroma told CTN that the funds for the first phase of the road construction work was now been secured. He said a good number of affected property owners along the proposed route had been compensated and allocated two town lots of land each at a place called Yams Farm. He however expressed dissatisfaction over the refusal of some property owners to cooperate with the SLRA. He said there were some people who refused their compensation package while others were yet to present their documents for verification. Mr. Koroma said SLRA has issued out notices, informing the affected property owners to take their correct legal documents to the Attorney General’s office for verification and subsequent compensation or else they would have themselves to blame. Mr. Koroma said even institutions like schools and places of worship that fall within the construction route would be demolished. Some affected property owners however expressed frustration over the compensation and relocation agreement between them and SLRA. Others stressed that since they were asked to submit their property documents, they had neither been informed about the content of their compensation package nor were they shown the place they were going to be relocated.
