The Chief Immigration Officer, Alpha Kholifa Koroma, says he is not surprised at President Ernest Koroma’s indictment of corruption against the Immigration Office.
The National Immigration Department was among government institutions that the president recently indicted for corrupt activities. The president accused the Immigration Department of issuing the country’s passports to foreign nationals. Mr. Koroma told CTN that the issue of corruption at the Immigration Department was owing to certain individuals they were working with whom were trying to derail what he described as “the process of change”. Mr. Koroma said issuing passports to foreign nationals had a potential danger of enabling terrorist groups get access to the country’s passport. He said issuing passport to foreign nationals whom might later engage in any terrorist activity could smear the country’s good image at the international scene. The Immigration boss promised to institute what he called “water tight measure” in a bid to reduce the level of corruption at the Immigration department.
