The Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education Sierra Leone (INEACE-SL) has been accredited by the National Council for Technical, Vocational and other Academic Awards (NCTVA).
The Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Dr. Christiana Thorpe, received the award of accreditation on behalf of the Institute. The NCTVA is to award the certificate in Electoral Administration and Civic Education. Dr. Christiana Thorpe said the award manifested the significance of the introduction of the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education which was educating recruited NEC workers about the electoral process. She said the Institute would ensure that NEC becomes a professional institution before 2015. Dr. Thorpe told CTN that the large amount of invalid votes in the 2007 and 2008 elections was as a result of poor voter education. She hoped that the Institute would ensure that the issue of invalid votes was minimized in the 2012 elections. The Chairman of the Committee of Accreditation of the NCTVA, Alhaji H. S Swarray-Deen said the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education has successfully gone through the required process to receive the award of accreditation from the NCTVA. Three hundred and fifty candidates from the Institute of Electoral Administration and Civic Education will be receiving certificates from the NCTVA.
