President Ernest Bai Koroma has declared April Twenty-Seventh, the country’s Independence Day, as the start of free medical delivery services to pregnant women and children in Sierra Leone.
President Koroma made the declaration during his visits to Yoni, Malal Mara and Kholifa Mabang chiefdoms in the Tonkolili district. He said the health of women and children should be a paramount concern to the government and people of Sierra Leone. President Koroma emphasized that the free medical services would minimise the rate of infant and maternal mortality in the country. He also promised to look into the acute problems of deplorable feeder roads, poor educational infrastructure and mechanical cultivation for farmers to come up with an immediate solution.
