The United Nations Children's Fund Goodwill Ambassador, Fabrienne Demal has officially handed over audio visual equipment and computers to the Voice of Children Project.
The Voice of Children project is managed by the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone.Ms. Demal, a Belgian pop star, praised the children for their courage and enthusiasm. She advised them to take their newly acquired journalistic skills seriously. Alison Parker is UNICEF’s Communication Officer. She said the project began in 2001 and was the initiative of Olara Otunnu, the then United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.She said a large number of children have since gained broadcast skills from training on the project which provided a medium for war affected children to air their views for the first time.The Voice of Children project is regarded internationally as a highly successful regional communications tool for stimulating critical discussion among communities of children.
