The Station Manager of Radio Wanjei in the Pujehun District, Melvin Rogers has alleged that he has received death threats from the Deputy Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Moijueh Kai Kai. Mr. Rogers who is also the Southern Regional Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, SLAJ, claimed that Mr. Kaikai called him up on his mobile phone, threatening to kill him. Mr. Rogers said he received the death threat from the Deputy Minister, after he had reported that prior to the recently conducted local government bye election in Lugbu Chiefdom, Mr. Kaikai was seen campaigning openly in the town of Buntiwo, in contravention of a presidential directive that government functionaries, who had no business with the elections, should avoid the area. The journalist made available the recorded telephone conversation with Mr. Kaikai. Moijueh Kaikai admitted to have made the statement. He however told CTN that Melvin Rogers was a politician hiding behind the journalism profession.
