A twelve year old girl in Koidu has died after allegedly been raped by a fifty-six year old man, Bakarr Sin-ga-tay.
Reports say the girl, who was bleeding profusely after the alleged rape incident, was admitted at the Koidu Government Hospital. The head of the Family Support Unit at the Tankoro Police Division, Detective Sergeant Mustapha Saidu Kamara said the suspect was in custody, helping in the investigation. A post-mortem examination on the corpse of the deceased has been conducted in Freetown, by the government consultant pathologist Dr, Simeon Owizz Koroma. But Dr. Koroma refused to disclose the result of the post mortem examination to a CTN journalist. The pathologist said he had handed over the report to the police. Meanwhile, a representative of the Kono Women’s Network Lovetta Koroma has called on the police to give the matter the seriousness it deserves; with view to ending impunity for sexual crimes especially against children.
