Sierra Leone’s First Lady has pledged her commitment to promoting girl child education in Sierra Leone.
Madam Sia Koroma made this pronouncement on Wednesday at the Victoria Park. She was addressing school girls who took part at a march past to celebrate Girl Child Education Week. The first Lady encouraged the pupils to be committed to their academic work despite numerous challenges. She cited poverty, cultural barriers, poor parenting and peer pressure as some of those challenges. Geert Capelleare is the UNICEF Representative in Sierra Leone. He said the country had every reason to celebrate the girl child education week.This year’s celebration is on the theme ‘promoting girls’ education. The Ministry of Education Youth and Sport in collaboration with UNICEF organized the programme.
