Women should no longer be spectators but full participants in governance.
This is according to Miria Matembe, Member of Parliament of Uganda and Pan-African Parliament. She spoke at the launch of “Ep Bil Salone Wit Uman Dem” by the National Democratic Institute at the US Embassy on Tuesday. She said Africa would not develop without the participation of women. June Carter Perry U.S Ambassador to Sierra Leone said women’s empowerment was crucial to the development of a country with over fifty percent of its population being women. She said more women should be involved in governance. NDI Country Director Honorine Muyoyeta said the programme was to expand the network of civil societies in support of women’s increased political participation. She said it involved training of women aspirants and dissemination of information on the importance of women in politics.
