Demonstration over Community Land

Monday, 06 September 2010 05:12
Residents of Hill Station on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest at the Presidential Lodge at Hill Station.

They were registering their grievances over the alleged seizure of the community football field at Hill Station by one Mr. Abu Bangura. They said the land in question was the only playing field in the community where sporting activities, community meetings and voting have been held for the past thirty years. The residents also raised concern over the lack of cemetery and community centre at Hill Station. They called on the President to address the matter. A truckload of police asked the protesters to leave the Presidential Lodge because they did not request for permission to protest. CTN was unable to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against Mr. Abu Bangura. However, the Member of Parliament representing Constituency One Hundred and Ten, Honourable Chernoh Bah, said he was not aware of the protest. He said the land in question had been in dispute even before he became a Member of Parliament. Honourable Bah promised to look into the matter.
