The former Chairman of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Mohammed Bangura has submitted to the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC), documents for the registration of a a new political party.
Registrar of the PPRC, Abraham John said the commission would take about 60 days to examine details of the documents to ensure that the proposed United Democratic Movement (UDM) fulfills the conditions for the registration of a political party, as contained in the PPRC Act.
He told Mr. Bangura that the submission of documentation has not in any way qualified his movement as a political party.
Mohammed Bangura, interim chairman and leader of the UDM said the day was a milestone in his political career, noting that he was confident that his movement was going to be a youth revolution in the country.
Mr. Bangura said at present his political ideology was being greatly admired by the youth in the country. He said his movement was opened to all in the country irrespective of ethnicity, region, age and religious beliefs.
He dismissed claims that he has support from the ruling APC party but agreed that he has very close relationship with all political parties in the country.
Bangura has resigned from the PMDC which was found after the disputed delegates’ conference of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in 2005.
He is currently in court with his former leader, Charles Margai who broke away from the SLPP to form the PMDC.
