Salone athletes depart for Commonwealth Games

forty-three man delegation comprising athletes and officials will leave Freetown on Tuesday, 28 September for Delhi, India to take part in the Commonwealth Games.

The championships will begin on 3 October.

Sierra Leone will be competing in seven events; prominent among them are athletics, boxing, weightlifting and the Paralympics.

Two professional athletes- 18 year-old London based Michaela Kargbo and US based Ola Sesay will be joining the team in Delhi. Michaela Kargbo will be competing in the 100 and 200 metre track events.

Ola Sesay represented Sierra Leone for the first time in the last World Athletics Championship in Germany.

However, the Commonwealth Sport Entries had earlier disqualified Sierra Leone in the lawn tennis category because the country did not meet the “qualifying standard” of the International Tennis Federation to compete in the tournament.
