Shining Stars to host Liberia in London 2012 qualifier

Sierra Leone’s national U-23 football team will host their Liberian counterparts in the first leg of the 2012 London Olympic Games qualifiers.

The match is scheduled for Friday 8 October at the National Stadium in Freetown.

Head coach of the Shining Stars, John Jebbor Sherrington commenced effective training with about 38 players at the football academy at Kingtom.

Sherrington told CTN sport that he had the technical competence to lead the team to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

“I say with no pessimism that I must take this team to London 2012. Liberia are the underdogs and am very much optimistic that we would trash them both at home and away,” Sherrington said.

He said his boys “are in high spirit for the match in Freetown.”

One of the team’s leading strikers, Dauda Kanu told CTN sports, that not even the goal keeper for the visitors could stop him from puting the ball at the back of the net.

This would be the first meeting of both teams in such a competition.

Sierra Leoneans are looking forward to a good.
