The Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) has re-elected Andre Hope as President of the association.

Mr. Hope went unopposed at a special congress held in Freetown. His rival, Abdul Karim Sesay did not show up at the election.

The Electoral Commissioner, Desmond Finney who is a retired national athlete said he was happy the process ended successfully. He said he would communicate the outcome to athletics world governing body, IAAF.

The President elect, Andre Hope called on all stakeholders to join hands and improve athletics in Sierra Leone.

Joshua Kamara was also elected vice president.

The Women’s representative, August Thelma was also elected unopposed.

The extraordinary congress has ended the long stand-off in the Athletics Association between two factions that were operating separately. The International body IAAF had threatened to ban Sierra Leone from all international athletics competition, if they failed to put their house in order.
