Overcrowding hits primary school in Mafindor

The Head Teacher of the Roman Catholic (RC) Primary School in Densambadu in Mafindor Chiefdom, Kono District has called on the government to pay more attention to the improvement of education in the chiefdom.

Peter Sheku said since the introduction of formal education in that part of the country in the early 60s, there had never been a secondary school in the chiefdom.

Mr. Sheku said the RC primary school in Densambadu had been the only school in the entire chiefdom that caters for children up to NPSE level.

He said the school was currently overcrowded as this year’s enrollment had exceeded 400.

Mr. Sheku also highlighted the lack of adequate teaching and learning materials and the late payment of salaries as some of the constraints faced by the school.

He described most of the teachers at the school as community teachers, who were not on payroll.

He therefore appealed to the government to address their plights.
