The Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has stressed that the time has come for universities and higher institutions in Sierra Leone for repositioning in order to confront the challenges of a changing and competitive world. Dr. Koroma was speaking at Fourah Bay College, during the University of Sierra Leone’s 2010 congregation for the conferment of degrees, diplomas and Certificates.Speaking on his theme of “Reforming University Education to respond to new and emerging challenges” the Chancellor called on the university authorities to create courses that would enable graduates to be competitive in the job market.The pro-chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone, Dr. Raymond Kamara said the University was going through a period of enormous difficulties that threatens its existence and its mandate of transmitting knowledge and discipline. He called on the government to invest in the university by increasing its subvention and funding for the university.Over one thousand students from the three constituent institutions of the university received their degrees, diploma and certificates in various disciplines including from Medicine, Law, Communication, Engineering among others.The new graduates were very much excited in receiving their degrees; but were very much concerned about their prospects in the job market.
